"The man who views the world at 50 the same way he did at 20 has wasted 30 years of his life." -Mohammed Ali

Pandas won last night 5-3!! They are Canada West Gold Medalists and off to the Nationals in Montreal in two weeks. It was the last home game at Clare Drake Arena for my cousin Danielle so it was an emotional affair but she held it together and got the insurance goal in the 3rd period to secure the victory. It was also one of the best games I've seen because at one point in the second period the Manitoba Bisons took the lead. Yikes!

Of course just now, as the season ends, I feel I have finally mastered the rules and regulations as an off-ice official, which is rather bad timing, no? But I couldn't have screwed it up that badly because I have also been asked to return next year so I have a job! That rocks.

Sadly, reading week was filled with more reading than drinking. Equally as sad, my week was filled with more movie watching than reading. It's all about balance, doncha know...tee hee. I saw Hitch with my ladies. Hitch dragged in parts but was entertaining overall. We saw The Motorcycle Diaries, but I passed out about 3/4 of the way through because it was so slow. The Duke recommended Fog of War: Eleven Lessons from the Life of Robert S. McNamara which was surprisingly good. I have always been very negative when it comes to McNamara because of his work with the World Bank. I have always thought of him as an indifferent bastard, but this movie showed me another side of the man....He's not *as* cold or calculating as I had once believed and he admitted to making a lot of mistakes. It is too bad the movie did not focus more on his later years at the World Bank though...I would love to hear what he has to say about his experiences given the critical time he was there.

I have also been introduced to a show that airs on Showtime which I had never heard of. It is called The L Word. At first I was a little taken aback by the soft-core porn nature of the show and I must admit it's not really my flavour, but the story line is very interesting and I found myself hating the Jenny character. She's a real piece of work so I found myself watching just to see how she would screw up next. It is like a Sex in the City/Queer as Folk type show. I am amazed at what they can show on cable...
Well, back to school tomorrow and I have to admit I am actually looking forward to being back on a schedule again...it just makes me so much more productive.

"We are all born mad. Some remain so" -Samuel Beckett

Today I was bored in my psych class (which is normal) so I entertained myself by watching some of the other students in my class. One girl had her head on her desk, and she was taking a wee nap. Every once and a while she'd look up and then resume her nap. One girl in the front row...who drives me mad with her constant nose blowing resorted to nose picking today. Hot.
She's in the front row, digging for gold and totally oblivious to everybody watching her do it. It was rather funny. It was like she had a big ole crusty stuck up in there that she just couldn't get out. She blew, then blew, then blew...nada. She'd carefully wrap the corner of the tissue around her finger and jam it up her nose...like that makes picking your nose in public more acceptable somehow. Then she would repeat, blow, blow, blow...jam finger up nose, blow, blow, blow jam finger up nose, blow, blow, blow...wash, rinse, repeat.
It was hilarious to watch the chick next to Picky because she kept throwing her these disgusted glances but to no avail.
On Monday I had the worst luck and ended up sitting next to Twitchy McTwitchalot who shook his leg, (I could barely write the whole row was shaking) tapped his pen on the desk constantly, adjusted himself in his chair every 30 seconds or so.
That is one of my biggest pet peeves...people who fidget. I try to be understanding and I try to look away or just ignore it. It is just a weird pet peeve I suppose.

"I'd Like To Ask You How You Like The Feel Of The Bass In Your Face In The Crowd"

Beastie Boys Concert in Gifu.
4:16 a.m. and my cell phone is ringing. WTF? I leap from bed disoriented *just* in time to catch the call. I can only hear the Beastie Boys, I can't hear OTC at all...and instantly I am transported around the globe to a B-Boys concert in Japan...Apparently that is Ad Rock on the right in the white pants...

"Another secret; guys feel left out...."

So Bogg has discovered a new holiday to celebrate a more masculine version of Valentines Day (VD)...Do men really feel left out?
I personally never thought of VD as a gender bias holiday because most people celebrate it together, no? But, I guess for the most part it is about love and the ladies love that crap.

The links off that page are rather hilarious (not to mention helpful and educational).
You better get your order in for one of these before March 14th rolls around. ('The Rocker' the Rottens came up with long ago has nothing on this) I think those will make lovely gifts for my ladies at Christmas or I ever get married they would make a funny bridesmaid gift...you could even get them personalized! (be sure to check out the rather graphic (that's your warning) photo of the merchandise in use) Ummm...I personally have never heard the terminology "Jit" before...that's a new one.

Thanks Bogg, that gave me a giggle...I needed a good laugh today.
Oh and Happy VD Dudes!

"Lucky" - Napoleon Dynamite

Each year our Birsdays start with Veronica's Birsday in April and end with Cherie's birsday....Today marks the day that we are all the same age.

I have known Cherie since grade eight when we attended Stratford Jr. High together. We didn't really get to know each other until high school and even then we were so much alike that we often fought like sisters. One upon a time( or in this case grade eleven) we were all out in St. Albert and Cherie and I had this huge, wicked fight and that was the moment I knew we would be friends forever. I realized that it was possible to love someone even if you didn't always agree with them. Cherie-pie has taught me a lot of lessons; I learned that every moment is a moment for laughter, I learned that crying is not just for sad days but for the days when your happiness cannot be contained and seeps out of you...and on to your bridesmaid dress. I have learned that scrunchies are for more than just holding ponytails and that playing drunken football outside with the boys isn't as much fun as drunken cuddling under blankets inside. Our friendship has formed a wee sub-culture that has its own language (like Birsday) and inside jokes, and although I seem to spend lots of time explaining our obscure references of "birsday" and "hootcher" and "Hey-you", when I am with my ladies I don't have to explain anything. I don't have to watch what I say...I can just be my crazy self because they just totally understand me. I think that is what family is all about...

Today is Cherie's birsday and I hope that she knows how lucky I feel that she is my best fliend. I just wish I could be in Kelowna giggling and laughing with her and celebrating! Damn I miss my beeoches.
Happy Birsday Geddy!

"57-year-old Camilla will not be known as Queen Camilla but as the Princess Consort"

So The prince has finally decided to get hitched to the lady he probably should have married originally. (Francoise d'Aubigne did it...Her and her luva, Louis XIV, did it in secret after his wife went tits up.)

I ask you, who gives a rat's ass? They even have public opinion polls...so if the opinion polls tank will he call off the wedding?
I have grown tired of the *news*. I'm so sick of it...

Awkward Standers in Council Chambers.

" When in charge, ponder... When in trouble, delegate... When in doubt, mumble..." - Dr. Jim Boren

Half-pipe has announced he is leaving the SU. I respect his decision and will wait until after the exec elections to see if he changes his mind and runs for council.

With that...it begins. Can you smell it in the air? It's election time at the SU. Woo hoo! The air is ripe with the smell of cheesy, and often bunk, resignation promises. It reeks of beginner sweat and false promise. It stirs the hack soul and demands attention. As it heats up, coming to a simmer shortly now, the candidates are stepping up and begging for assistance, gathering support, picking out colours and slogans. The hope dies a little when you see some of the people who have decided to run. Jesus.
Then you see the best of the best step up and take on this most honoured tradition. I can't wait for the forums, the platforms, the handbills and let's not forget the social whoring.
To think that Half-pipe can stand at a distance and just watch. Watch?? Well, Myer Horowitz just won't be the same without him. I hope the lure of such hackilicious things will overwhelm him and convince him to re-think this decision. Okay, so I guess "respecting" his decision was a bit of an overstatement...so sue me. I am just sad to hear this news...sad.

Song Du Jour: The Boxer ~ Simon & Garfunkel

"I have squandered my resistance for a pocketful of mumbles,
Such are promises, all lies and jest,
Still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest, hmmmm"
